On behalf of the 2017 Programme Committee, we look forward to having you join us at Ryerson University. We have three exciting plenary sessions planned: "Brexit, Trump and the Rise of Radical Right Populism in the West: Is Democracy Threatened?", "The Trumpization of Canada: Can It Happen Here?" and "Ensuring that the TRC is a Program of Action: The CPSA Reconciliation Committee's Plan and the Discipline." We have also planned a special panel on the US elections and a pre-conference workshop on public opinion research. In addition, panels, roundtables and workshops will take a critical look at the Canadian confederation at 150 and address the theme of democratic deconsolidation in Canada and around the globe. Numerous other sessions will provide opportunities to learn about the latest research being conducted by political scientists in Canada and abroad and to take away valuable insights for your own research. Roundtable: Graduate Life and Mental Health
The intersection between graduate education and mental health has received mainstream attention by publications like The Globe and Mail, The Guardian, and The Chronicle of Higher Education. These publications are a response to a growing body of research that highlights how rates of mental illness in academic staff are 3 to 4 times higher than the general population (see: Winefield 2003) and how there is a “culture of acceptance” that surrounds mental illness in academia (Academics Anonymous 2014).

Roundtable: Thinking about Precariousness
Scholars in Canada have played a key role in developing the concept of precariousness. Precariousness, for instance, has been deployed to convey how different forms of employment are shaped by status, forms of employment and broader social relations producing particular forms of inequality for different groups of people.

CPSA President’s Dinner
As CPSA President, I invite all conference delegates to join me for this year’s President’s Dinner, which will be a traditional 12-course Chinese banquet in Chinatown. In keeping with the 2017 conference programming of both Congress and the CPSA on Confederation @ 150, this unique location invites consideration of the important role of Chinese Canadians in the history and ongoing evolution of Toronto and Canada. Cocktails will be available from 6:00 pm, and the first course of the dinner will be served shortly after 6:30 pm.

CPSA Cabaret with Baby Bel Bel
New this year, join us for the CPSA Cabaret, a queer-friendly event supported by the Women's Caucus and open to all CPSA delegates. This casual mixer will feature drinks, snacks, good company and a performance by drag artist, Baby Bel Bel. The cabaret will be held on Tuesday, May 30, 2017 at 8 pm at the Ryerson Student Campus Centre, immediately following the Departmental Reception. Attendees can pay for their ticket on the Congress registration form under "Other Fees" until Saturday, May 20, 2017. After this date, attendees are asked to contact the CPSA Secretariat.
