Intergovernmental relations (IGR) impact virtually every aspect of public policy in Canada. Nowhere is this more the case than in the area of social policy. This session will focus on key developments in Canada’s social union. Discussion will cover a number of policy fields, including: education, employment, immigration and health care. The roundtable will also look back at the promise of the Social Union Framework Agreement (SUFA), signed by all governments (except Québec) in 1999. As part of a larger series of roundtables that bring together different perspectives on IGR across a wide range of policy sectors, this session will further our understanding of social policy and IGR.
