Where do municipalities fit in Canadian intergovernmental relations? How do formal and informal intergovernmental mechanisms vary in Canada across provinces and policy fields? Where are these intergovernmental institutions working well, and where do they need improvement? This roundtable seeks to initiate a discussion of these questions by surveying recent research on Canadian intergovernmental relations and multilevel governance and discussing how best to identify and assess the often diffuse and informal character of the municipal role in Canadian intergovernmental relations.
